Digital addiction

Digital addiction is a growing concern, with the World Health Organization recognizing digital gaming disorder as a medical condition. Recent studies highlight the role of social media identity bubbles in fostering addiction, leading to psychological distress and decreased well-being19. To avoid digital addiction,

  • awareness and monitoring of screen time are crucial.
  • Effective interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy and exercise, which have shown positive outcomes in reducing addiction symptoms.
  • Engaging in offline activities and building social connections can also help mitigate the risks associated with excessive digital use.
Early intervention is key to preventing long-term negative impacts.

Personally:

  1. I turn off the screen as soon as I catch myself mindlessly scrolling—just to take a break.

  2. I set a timer before using my phone, and once it goes off, the screen goes off too. It helps me control my usage.

  3. I set fixed focus times for other tasks, which helps me stay productive and think less about social interactions and distractions.
